Financial Services staff director to depart for trade group

WASHINGTON — Shannon McGahn, the staff director for the House Financial Services Committee, will leave her post next week to join the National Association of Realtors.

McGahn has held various senior government jobs since 2000, including serving as counselor to the secretary of the Treasury and as communications director for Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling. She will serve as senior vice president of government affairs at the Realtor association.

“Shannon has been by my side as a trusted advisor and friend throughout some of the most pivotal moments of my career,” Hensarling, a Republican from Texas, said in a statement. “While Shannon will be greatly missed as a member of my team, I have no doubt she will continue to lead in her future endeavors."

Ed Skala, the deputy staff director for the committee, will be promoted to staff director, the committee announced Tuesday.

McGahn will be the first woman to hold the position of senior vice president of government affairs for the Realtor group.

“I’m excited to join NAR and bring my experience in the legislative and executive branches to support policies that not only benefit members, but promote property ownership for everyday Americans,” said McGahn in a press release issued by the trade group.

McGahn’s husband, White House Counsel Don McGahn, is also leaving his job this fall, President Trump announced Aug. 29 on Twitter.
