Fincen: Keep SAR Data for Five Years

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network issued guidance on how financial institutions should treat supporting documentation when filing a suspicious activity report.

Any supporting evidence should be filed and maintained for up to five years after a SAR is submitted, Fincen said Wednesday. It defined supporting documentation as any record that assisted a financial institution in deciding to file the report.
