The $8 billion-asset unit of First Midwest Bancorp (FMBI) said Monday that David Knapp has joined the company as president of a newly formed group for commercial banking in Chicago's western suburbs.

Knapp joins First Midwest from BMO Harris, where he served as a managing director for commercial banking and diversified industries.

"David's experiences in lending, sales management and business development are certain to help us achieve our goal of significantly expanding our market presence in the west and northwest suburban Chicago markets," First Midwest president Mark Sander said in a news release.

Knapp also has held posts at LaSalle Bank and Northern Trust throughout his 28 years in the banking industry.
