First West Virginia Names Interim Leader After CEO's Death

First West Virginia Bancorp (FWV) in Wheeling has shifted some of its leaders following the death of its longtime chief executive.

The $352 million-asset company said Monday that Sylvan Dlesk, its chairman and CEO, died on Dec. 18. Dlesk, 73, had been president and CEO of the company and its bank since 2006 and had been chairman since 2004.

William Petroplus was named interim CEO. Petroplus, 64, has been a director since 1998, and is chairman of the company's nominating committee. Petroplus will lead the search for a permanent CEO.

R. Clark Morton succeeded Dlesk as chairman. Morton, 83, has been a director since 1965.

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Mr. Dlesk," Petroplus said in a press release. "The bank directors and employees express our deep gratitude to Mr. Dlesk for his long-term service and commitment to our company … and we express our sympathies to his family."
