Foe of the Fed

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a long shot for the Republican presidential nomination, and that may just be a good thing for employees at the Federal Reserve Board.

Perry caused a stir back in August, when his poll numbers were higher, by taking a militant tone when speaking of Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. In case you've forgotten his exact words, Perry said back then of Bernanke, "If this guy prints more money between now and the election — I don't know what y'all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas."

Well, it appears Perry's tone hasn't softened much since then. On the campaign trail in South Carolina last week, according to NBC News, Perry suggested the Fed's archnemesis — Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, a fellow presidential candidate — would be a good Bernanke successor.

Asked how Paul, a notorious critic of the central bank, would do as a Fed chairman, Perry said, "Congressman Paul would be an ideal person to head up the Fed and put a little fear in their heart. Earlier, according to the report, Perry said Paul would "probably scare all of those people to death."
