Gadfly Bugs American Express About Paper

The activist shareholder Evelyn Y. Davis made her presence felt at American Express Co.'s annual meeting Monday, complaining about not receiving paper statements, among other things.

"I want to get paper," Davis, who owns 300 common shares of Amex, said during one of several turns at the microphone during the two-hour meeting at the company's New York headquarters. "I never received my yearend statement for 2008 and 2009. Nobody should be forced to use e-mail." Chief Executive Ken Chenault said he'd look into the matter.

Most of Davis' complaints at the meeting were, for her, tame. Last week she chastised Citigroup Inc. Chairman Richard Parsons over various issues for nearly 20 minutes at its annual meeting.
