A card announced Wednesday by GE Money rewards cardholders by reducing carbon emissions.
The General Electric Co. unit's Earth Rewards Platinum MasterCard "allows users to reduce their carbon footprint by automatically contributing up to 1% of their card purchases to buy greenhouse gas emissions offsets."
Each Earth Day, April 22, GE and AES Corp., a utility management company, plan to invest the rewards in projects that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The card has no annual fee and offers a zero-percent teaser rate for six months. Consumers must apply for it online.
"Earth Rewards cardholders will now have a new tool to complement the ways they are already reducing their emissions," Tom Gentile, GE Money's chief marketing officer, said in a press release.
