Hang Seng Bank Names Raymond Ch'ien As Board Chairman

HONG KONG (Dow Jones)-- Hang Seng Bank Ltd. (0011.HK), a unit of HSBC HoldingsPLC (HBC), said Monday it appointed Raymond Ch'ien as board chairman to replaceMichael Smith who left HSBC in June to become the chief executive of Australia &New Zealand Banking Group Ltd.

Hang Seng Bank said it also appointed Ch'ien as an independent non-executivedirector.

The bank said in a statement that Ch'ien is also an independent non-executivedirector of HSBC's Asian unit, Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp. and chairman of MTR Corp. (0066.HK).

It also said it appointed Alexander Andrew Flockhart as a non-executivedirector.

It said Flockhart is a group managing director of HSBC, a director and chiefexecutive of Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp., global head of commercialbanking of HSBC Group and a director of HSBC Bank Australia Ltd.

Both appointments took effect Monday.
