Have Spreadsheet, Will Travel

Bank analyst Brian Foran poked fun at his own job-hopping during a regional bank's second-quarter earnings call.

Analysts frequently switch jobs but rarely call attention to their moves during quarterly conference calls.

Yet that's what happened on Friday when Brian Foran introduced himself to SunTrust's (STI) management. Foran, who joined boutique shop Autonomous Research USA late last year, observed after his introduction that it seems "like my firm name keeps changing on every conference call."

"Well, it seems like that is what was implied by the name," quipped William Rogers, SunTrust's chairman and chief executive.

"I will go with Anonymous next time," Foran responded before asking his question.

Autonomous is Foran's third employer in less than three years. Foran previously had been with Nomura Securities International, a firm he joined in August 2010 after leaving Goldman Sachs (GS). Foran had worked at Goldman since 2005.
