Heartland Payment Systems Inc. said it is the exclusive processor for the Restaurant Association of Maryland.

The organization, which has 2,000 member restaurants, is the 44th state restaurant association to sign on with Heartland.
Heartland, of Princeton, N.J., provides credit, debit and prepaid processing to the association.
It also provides gift card marketing and check management services.
"The nuances of payments processing can be complex, especially for time-pressed restaurant owners — but understanding the fundamental issues is critical to running a profitable business," Heartland Chairman and Chief Executive Bob Carr said in a press release Wednesday.
