Heartland to Resell VeriFone Terminals

Heartland Payment Systems Inc. has agreed to resell VeriFone Holdings Inc.'s portable payment terminals to its restaurant customers.

VeriFone, a San Jose payment systems provider, announced Wednesday that the Princeton, N.J., processor will market its On The Spot suite of products and services, including its VX670 handheld reader, under the Heartland Tableside brand name.

VeriFone's systems use WiFi connectivity to let restaurant customers use credit and debit cards at portable payment terminals that are delivered to their tables, averting the need to give cards to waiters who swipe them in another part of the restaurant.

VeriFone said that paying at the table can significantly reduce card skimming and tip alteration scams.
