Global financial giant HSBC last week opened its new North American headquarters in the Chicago area, built as an environment-friendly facility that will house 3,100 of its employees previously sequestered at five separate locations.
The 560,000-square foot headquarters was not only built to reduce resource consumption and encourage extensive recyling and energy-saving measures, but also prompts employee participation through an expanded work-at-home program. It added a nice perk for those still commuting: preferred parking for fuel-efficient and hybrid vehicles. The new building is in the Chicagoland suburb of Mettawa, relocating from Prospect Heights.
