Banco Nacional de Costa Rica ordered more than 13,000 Hypercom Corp. Optimum countertop and mobile payment terminals, which it plans to distribute to merchants throughout Costa Rica.
Hypercom, a Scottsdale, Ariz., vendor, did not disclose the order's specific cost but said it believes the multimillion-dollar, four-year deal is one of the biggest in the country.
"BNCR is one of the electronic payment leaders in Costa Rica and their selection of Optimum is a major endorsement that recognizes the product's competitive advantages and strengthens our footprint in Central America," Samia Bounaira, a Hypercom managing director, said in a press release Tuesday.
Evertec Latin America, an authorized distributor of Hypercom products in Costa Rica, is to provide the terminals and merchant field services.
