NEW YORK - Online banking is more prevalent in Alaska than anywhere else, according Cyber Dialogue Inc.
Some 12.4% of adult Alaskans bank online, the Internet research and software firm estimated, versus 10.4% for second-place Washington/Maryland and 9.6% for third-place California.
Sam Callard, a senior analyst in Cyber Dialogue's finance practice group, cited Alaska's relatively large population of affluent people and the difficulty in getting to branches.
At the low end, only 3.3% of Mississippi adults bank online, the company estimated. Next lowest were Kentucky (3.8%), Alabama (3.9%), and Tennessee (4.1%).
Cyber Dialogue based its figures on Census Bureau data and its own surveys.
