CHARLOTTE - Bank of America Corp. has introduced a keychain-sized Visa debit card - a cousin to the half-sized credit card it began offering in October.
The bank, which has a patent on the mini-card, said Tuesday that it will offer the debit product to all new checking account holders and to existing customers when their current debit cards expire.
Both the credit and the debit versions are issued as companions to a full-sized card, in accordance with Visa rules.
A company spokeswoman would not say how the miniature credit card has performed or whether other issuers have signed up to offer it. Bank of America has a one-year exclusivity agreement with Visa U.S.A. to issue the cards. Other issuers may do so after the deal expires, as long as they pay licensing fees to both B of A and Visa.
