In Brief: BankAtlantic to Add Orlando Branches

BankAtlantic Bancorp Inc. in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., said it plans to continue its expansion in its home state by opening at least four branches in Orlando next year.

Two of the branches are slated to open in January, the $6 billion-asset company said Tuesday. It also said that within the next several years more than 20 will open in the Orlando area.

This year BankAtlantic opened a customer service and training center in Orlando, which the company said will eventually employ more than 250 people.

It intends to open more than 40 branches throughout the state within the next 18 to 24 months. Currently it has 80, in south Florida and Tampa.
