Banknorth Group Inc. of Portland, Maine, is buying Field & Quimby Inc., a community insurance agency in Belfast, Maine.
The deal was announced Thursday.
Field & Quimby, primarily a personal property/casualty insurance agency, will become part of Banknorth Insurance Group. The group sells personal insurance services such as home and auto, and a full range of commercial insurance services such as risk management, property and casualty, professional liability, employee benefits, and group-sponsored plans.
Banknorth Insurance Group currently owns three Maine insurance agencies: Morse, Payson & Noyes in South Portland and Auburn; W.C. Ladd & Sons in Rockport and Belfast; and New England Benefits in Sanford. It also has agencies in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Vermont.
