In Brief: DM2 Using Loyalty Software

The Montreal point of sale equipment vendor DM2 Technology has licensed loyalty, stored-value, and gift-card management software from Schimatic Cash Transactions Network.com Inc. to use in a loyalty program it is testing.

DM2, a unit of Bach-Hauser Inc. of Cayuga, Ontario, currently uses magnetic stripe cards for the program, which is being tested with 50 merchants in Canada.

On Monday, DM2 said it would immediately begin installing the software from Schimatic, of Las Vegas, which operates under the name Smart Chip Technologies, for its merchants to use.

Smart Chip's e-llegiance software creates a single platform for processing loyalty points and payments through smart cards. DM2 will also use Smart Chip's Loyalty Central application for back-end transaction processing.

DM2 plans to add 200 merchant locations to the program in the near future, and it expects at least 1,250 merchants to be using the program within a year.

Martin Grenier, DM2's president, said in a press release that the software "will provide our merchants with more flexible tools to win and retain customers."
