The Scottsdale, Ariz., payments technology company said Monday that it had hired Nelson Eng as the president of its U.S. business. Mr. Eng was most recently a manager and group vice president in the financial services sector for Oracle.

The position was created in January and was filled temporarily by Rahul Gupta, who was hired in January 2003 as senior vice president of eFunds’ risk management business. Mr. Gupta will stay through mid-December to help with the transition, and then leave the company. Mr. Eng starts next week.

“Our franchise has been historically more U.S.-focused. That has changed over the last couple of years,” Paul Walsh, eFunds’ chairman and chief executive, said. “The U.S. business is a large focus for us,” and requires its own president.

Although the U.S. business is still growing, it is more mature than the international markets, and eFunds also hired an international president this year to oversee those.

In recent months eFunds has made several changes to its management team. In August it hired Shailesh Kotwal as the president of its international division, a newly created position that Mr. Walsh said was “key to our expanded international strategy.” Mr. Kotwal was a vice president for American Express Co.’s international insurance services business.

In the second quarter eFunds restructured several businesses to focus on specific geographic regions; the U.S. business also was divided into payment and risk management businesses.
