In Brief: GE’s Card Bank to Change Charters

WASHINGTON — GE Capital Consumer Card Co. of Mason, Ohio, won government approval to switch from a state charter to a federal savings bank and changed its name to GE Financial Corp.

The Office of Thrift Supervision said the $494 million-asset subsidiary of GE Capital Corp. will continue to operate primarily as a credit card bank but will now offer additional consumer loan products. For example, the thrift plans to offer a debt consolidation product, the agency said.
