Hoping to win more business in Eastern Europe, Global Payments Inc. has opened an office in Kiev.
The processor, which announced the opening last week, called Ukraine a promising market. According to the industry newsletter The Nilson Report, card issuance in the Ukraine grew 42% in 2005. The Atlanta company's new office is part of Global Payments Europe s.r.o. of Prague.
Global Payments Europe said the Kiev office would better serve its customers that focus on the Ukraine. Global Payments Europe serves Eastern, Central, and Southeastern Europe, and has offices in Bratislava, Slovakia, Moscow, Warsaw, and Sarajevo. The company created the European unit in 2004 by purchasing Muzo AS, the No. 1 indirect payment processor in the Czech Republic.
Nearly two weeks ago, Global Payments closed on its acquisition of the European processor Diginet d.o.o. of Sarajevo.
