In Brief: Goldman Plucks M&A Execs from Warburg

Bloomberg News

LONDON - Goldman Sachs Group said it has hired Peter Kiernan and Luca Ferrari as mergers and acquisitions bankers from UBS Warburg.

Goldman's European M&A group ranked as the top adviser during the first half of the year. Mr. Kiernan has joined as managing director and is to develop Goldman's client relationships in the United Kingdom. He was a managing director in a similar role at UBS Warburg, which was ranked fifth among European advisers during the first half.

Mr. Ferrari joined this week as a vice president for advisory in the United Kingdom and Europe. He previously handled European transactions for UBS Warburg.

The appointments continue the expansion of Goldman's European investment banking team, which hired Philip Raper, former co-head of corporate brokerage at Schroder Salomon Smith Barney in May, and Roberto Mendoza, former vice chairman of J.P. Morgan & Co., in June.
