In Brief: HSCB Securities Hires 2 Chase Bond Traders

HSBC Securities Inc., New York, the investment banking unit of London-based HSBC Holdings PLC, has hired two senior bond traders from Chase Manhattan Corp.

HSBC said it has added Joseph T. O'Loughlin and Brian Sullivan, both of whom started their careers at Dean Witter Reynolds Inc and joined Chase in 1991.

Mr. O'Loughlin will trade Treasury bills. Mr. Sullivan will concentrate on the five year Treasury note market.

HSBC Securities last month obtained Section 20 underwriting powers, which allow it to engage in underwriting and dealing in a wide range of securities.

HSBC has the authority to engage in underwriting and dealing corporate debt and equity securities, as well as those backed by mortgages or other assets.
