Merrill Lynch & Co. chief executive E. Stanley O'Neal said the firm is considering increasing its Internet banking by adding to its existing operations or by making "small acquisitions" or striking partnerships.
"I would like to see us have a stronger online banking capability," said Mr. O'Neal, speaking Tuesday at a financial services conference Merrill held in New York. "We could generate growth in deposits and growth in assets better than what we did in the past three years."
Mr. O'Neal used the speech at Manhattan's Pierre Hotel to map out a number of priorities. He also said he would like to double the revenue Merrill derives from Europe and Asia by 2008.
