In Brief: Merrill Names 2 Investment Execs

LONDON — Merrill Lynch & Co. has appointed Robert C. Doll as global chief investment officer and Peter J. Gibbs as global chief operating officer of its global investment management arm.

Merrill also announced Wednesday that Carol Galley and Stephen Zimmerman, the unit’s joint chief operating officers, will retire. Ms. Galley, 52, will stay until yearend, and Mr. Zimmerman, 51, until June 30.

The company said that the retirements were expected.

Mr. Doll, 47, will stay in New York and remain the co-head of Merrill Lynch Investment Management Americas, which focuses on retail investment management there. Mr. Gibbs, 43, will remain co-head of Merrill Lynch Investment Management Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
