Metavante Corp. said Wednesday that 12 of the nation's 25 largest banks began transmitting check images over its Endpoint Exchange Network this year.
Metavante, the technology subsidiary of the Milwaukee banking company Marshall & Ilsley Corp., did not identify the banks, saying it does not have permission from them. But at least two of the nation's top 10 banking companies are known to be live on its network: U.S. Bancorp, which joined in May, and Bank of America Corp., which joined in November 2005.
Endpoint Exchange, which Metavante bought in July 2004, has more than 4,000 client institutions, though mostly with less than $10 billion of assets. However, it has been promoting its services to larger companies as a way to conduct image exchange with trading partners at the community and regional levels.
