In Brief: MetLife Promotes Portfolio Manager

BOSTON - State Street Research and Management Co., the Boston-based money management arm of Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., has named Richard S. Davis president and chief executive officer.

Mr. Davis, 54, succeeds Jeffrey J. Hodgman, a MetLife executive vice president who has been interim chief executive officer since May.

Mr. Davis came to MetLife from J.P. Morgan in 1999 and has managed MetLife's $110 billion fixed-income portfolio.

During eight years at J.P. Morgan Securities and J.P. Morgan Investment Management, he was responsible for product development as well as global fixed-income sales for securities dealers.

Mr. Davis will assume leadership of State Street Research on Nov. 1.
