In Brief: Microsoft Deposit in Woman-Owned Bank

WASHINGTON - Microsoft Corp. said Tuesday that it had deposited $2 million in Adams National Bank, which it described as the nation's largest woman-owned bank.

The deposit was part of the $9 million earmarked for minority- and women-owned banks, Microsoft said.

The investment is meant to help the 25-year-old financial institution continue to provide loans and services to its small-business customers, the majority of which are minority-owned or nonprofit, Microsoft said.

"Deposits are critical to community banks," said Kate Carr, the president of the Adams National Bank. "This deposit enables us to provide the necessary loans to small businesses that major banks often cannot service - particularly small, women-owned, and minority businesses."
