HSBC North America Holdings Inc. said it will build a 440,000-square-foot headquarters in Mettawa, Ill., this year.
The HSBC Holdings PLC unit said Monday that it had signed a 13-year lease with the option to renew up to 30 years. It did not say how much it paid.
Construction will start in the spring, and the building is scheduled to be completed in the beginning of 2008. HSBC North America is currently based in Prospect Heights, about 15 miles south of Mettawa. The unit expects to move about 2,400 employees into the building by the summer of 2008.
