After a search that lasted months, the New Jersey League of Community Bankers named one of its own, executive vice president James R. Silkensen, to replace its longtime president.
Mr. Silkensen, 61, joined the league in 1984 and had been acting president since Sam Damiano retired on Dec. 31. He will also be the chairman of the league's Thrift Institutions Community Investment Corp. subsidiary, which helps league members form partnerships to lend on low- to moderate-income housing projects.
The roughly 75-member league primarily represents thrifts. Late last year it was in discussions to merge with the New Jersey Bankers Association, but the talks broke down and representatives from the groups said recently that they planned to remain independent for the time being.
