The mobile phone payments company Obopay Inc. has signed a deal to distribute its payment software to customers of the wireless carrier Helio LLC.
Helio, a joint venture of the Korean telecom company SK Telecom Co. Ltd. and the Atlanta Internet service provider Earthlink Inc., runs over the Sprint Nextel wireless network.
The deal, which Obopay announced Wednesday, allows the Redwood City, Calif., payments company's users to download special software to make and receive payments. The service also operates by text message, but Obopay has said the software is easier to use.
Obopay has announced similar agreements with Cingular Wireless LLC and Amp'd Mobile Inc. of Los Angeles, which offers wireless service through the Verizon Wireless network.
