The Los Angeles wireless telephone carrier Amp'd Mobile Inc. has begun offering a mobile payment service using software from Obopay Inc.
The Redwood City, Calif., payments technology company said Wednesday that the service, which is available on all Amp'd phones, lets users send money to any mobile phone number and to receive money from any Obopay user. The funds are drawn from a prepaid Obopay account, which can also be accessed with a MasterCard debit card.
Amp'd Mobile, whose phones operates on the Verizon Wireless network, said it is the first U.S. carrier to offer such a service.
