SYDNEY, Australia Visa International and Telstra Corp., Australias largest mobile telephone operator, have teamed up to offer a wireless automated teller machine locator service.
The service, launched at the 2000 Olympic Games and still available in Australia, requires Wireless Application Protocol-enabled mobile phones that are connected to Telstras MobileNet WebMode network.
ATMs within the Visa Global network including machines that were installed expressly for the Olympic Games can be found by visiting www.telstra.com and entering a postal code, or city and street information.
Programs such as these help raise awareness of the ability to use a Visa card in new e-commerce channels, and extend the convenience of Visa into the wireless Internet, said Philip Yen, head of e-Visa International. Visa cardholders can expect to see a range of wireless services, such as convenient payment, in the near future.
