In Brief: Visa, Telstra Offer ATM Finder Service

SYDNEY, Australia — Visa International and Telstra Corp., Australia’s largest mobile telephone operator, have teamed up to offer a wireless automated teller machine locator service.

The service, launched at the 2000 Olympic Games and still available in Australia, requires Wireless Application Protocol-enabled mobile phones that are connected to Telstra’s MobileNet WebMode network.

ATMs within the Visa Global network — including machines that were installed expressly for the Olympic Games — can be found by visiting www.telstra.com and entering a postal code, or city and street information.

“Programs such as these help raise awareness of the ability to use a Visa card in new e-commerce channels, and extend the convenience of Visa into the wireless Internet,” said Philip Yen, head of e-Visa International. “Visa cardholders can expect to see a range of wireless services, such as convenient payment, in the near future.”
