In Brief: Wachovia Teeing Off Television Campaign

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wachovia Corp. this weekend will begin airing its first national television spots since last year's merger of First Union Corp. and the old Wachovia.

The seven "Uncommon Wisdom" commercials tout Wachovia Securities' brokerage and investment banking services. "Uncommon Wisdom" print ads have been running since May.

The campaign kicks off Saturday in telecasts of golf's British Open golf tournament and is to continue for the rest of the year on network TV and national cable. TV and print ads for the retail banking business are to start in November, when Wachovia is slated to begin branch conversions in Florida.

The ads were created by the Mullen agency of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Wachovia has not said how much it is spending on its post-merger branding efforts, but executives have said the company will rank in the top one-third of banks on advertising spending this year.
