WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wachovia Corp.'s lead bank subsidiary is closing 11 branches in Harris Teeter stores.

In a press release Wednesday, the banking company said it will phase out 10 Harris Teeter in-store offices, moving the operations into Wachovia branches in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

In addition, the company said it plans to move a Harris Teeter branch in Fayetteville, N.C., into Wachovia's Bordeaux, N.C., office. Wachovia said it expects all the in-store branches to be closed by January, with most affected employees transferring to other Wachovia sites in metropolitan Atlanta or Fayetteville.

Retailer Harris Teeter said it will seek other in-store banking partners after Wachovia's departure. No Harris Teeter employees are affected.
