Webster Financial Corp. of Waterbury, Conn., announced Thursday that it had appointed Nancy Scirocco as the business development officer of its new not-for-profit commercial banking department.

Robert Annon Jr., Webster's senior vice president of middle-market banking, said the new department would be part of its health-care division. He said Webster decided to create the department because it has many large arts and culture organizations as customers.
Ms. Scirocco had been the business development officer at the MetroHartford Alliance, an economic development organization.
