In Briefs: Colorado's MegaBank Acquiring Title Insurer

MegaBank Financial Corp. of Englewood, Colo., has announced a plan to buy Denver-based Empire Title and Escrow Corp. for an undisclosed amount of cash and stock.

MegaBank, which has $230 million of assets, specializes in construction lending to small and medium-size home builders.

The company said last week that the deal would expand its product line. MegaBank, which went public last November, converted to a thrift last year. It operates eight branches in metropolitan Denver.

Formed in 1991, Empire Title represents three national insurance underwriters and sells title insurance products to home builders and real estate firms in Colorado. It will operate as a subsidiary of MegaBank.
