IPayment in Resale Deal with Roam Data

IPayment Inc., a processor based in Nashville, has agreed to resell Roam Data Inc.'s RoamPay mobile phone card-acceptance system.

Roam Data, of Boston, said that an encrypted card-swipe device that plugs into phones' audio jacks will be available June 1 for Apple Inc.'s iPhone and devices using Google Inc.'s Android operating systems. Devices compatible with other mobile phone operating systems will be available later this summer.

RoamPay is targeted at the smallest of merchants. The company said 49 independent sales organizations are reselling RoamPay.

Roam Data also has agreements with First Data Corp., Chase Paymentech LLC and Palm Desert National Bank, among others. First Data and Chase Paymentech resell Roam Data's services under their brand names.

The point of sale terminal maker Ingenico SA also uses RoamPay as a mobile payments product and is a minority investor in Roam Data.

Roam Data announced the IPayment partnership last week.
