Jack Henry, Mitek Partner in Mobile

Jack Henry & Associates Inc.'s ProfitStars division has begun offering Mitek Systems Inc.'s mobile remote-deposit capture software, pairing it with its own Alogent Mobile Remote Deposit system.

Mitek, of San Diego, provides a ready-made interface for mobile phones that can be customized to incorporate any financial company's branding.

The software also handles complex imaging issues, such as correcting poor lighting and creases in checks that can be exaggerated when users try to capture check images with a mobile phone camera.

After Mitek captures and corrects the image, "the Alogent system is … providing the heavy lifting" to complete the transactions, Brandon Kunz, the manager of product strategy and product marketing for ProfitStars, said in an interview Wednesday.

These functions include determining the image's validity and checking for duplicate deposits, he said.

A top-tier bank, which Jack Henry would not name, uses the Alogent system today without Mitek's additions. Kunz said he considers this client a prospect for using Mitek's system, and expects that most clients would prefer Mitek's software over building those functions in-house or turning to another vendor. Currently the companies do not have any clients using the joint offering.
