JPM, Mitek in Smartphone Collaboration

JPMorgan Chase & Co. is teaming up with the image-capture vendor Mitek Systems Inc. to develop new applications for smartphones.

The New York bank said Monday that the agreement would build on its existing QuickDeposit service, which lets customers deposit paper checks by taking a picture of them with their smartphones.

"Customers demand an efficient and reliable mobile-banking experience from Chase," Jack Stephenson, the managing director of mobile, e-commerce and payments at JPMorgan Chase, said in a press release. "Mitek's Mobile Deposit product helps us deliver on that promise by making mobile check depositing convenient and quick across a variety of platforms."

JPMorgan Chase added QuickDeposit to its iPhone app in July and made it available for customers using Google Inc. Android smartphones with an app released in November. The bank developed those applications internally. Mitek said JPMorgan Chase would use its mobile deposit software in the next version of its QuickDeposit.
