Kislak Reenters Mortgage Business

Kislak Organization, a real estate company in Miami Lakes, Fla., is back in the home mortgage business using what it calls a "two-pronged" approach to lending.

J.I. Kislak Mortgage LLC is establishing brick-and-mortar offices to serve residential customers in Florida and the Southeast, it announced last week. It has also entered the private-label business through Kislak Lending Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of Kislak Mortgage that in turn is a joint initiative with Thomas Meyer, who will be its chief executive.

Meyer founded HomeBuilders Financial Network, which built and ran in-house mortgage companies for builders. He sold the outfit to Fidelity National Financial Inc. in 2002.

Kislak quit the mortgage business in 1996 when it sold its servicing portfolio to a consortium of banks.
