Letter to the Editor: Tucker Anthony Not Sole Recourse for Small Banks

To the Editor:

I take exception to a statement in the American Banker article titled “Helping Bank Clients Interpret Profitability Data” [page 12A] by Alan Kline in the January 2001 edition of Community Banking. He states: “Tucker Anthony’s consulting arm is the only one in the country that specializes in profitability analysis for community banks.”

That simply is not true. During my consulting career I have known and worked with numerous individuals and firms that specialize in working with community banks and their cost accounting systems.

In fact, I can reference firsthand as a founder of Medici Technology Inc., the developer of the Medici Strategic Marketer MCIF system, that the profitability analysis capability has been incorporated into this popular system from the start.

In building the system, we engaged a prominent firm that specializes in installing cost accounting systems for banks to develop a unique feature that provides profitability data for the community banks that are targeted to use the system.

When PCi Corp. of Boston acquired the Medici system, now called Market Wiz, it made many improvements in the system’s profitability features and is committed to working with its 60-plus community bank users to help them understand and use these profitability analysis features to make sound decisions on products, pricing, and other profit-related matters.

Accordingly, PCi has evolved into a company that is truly involved in working with community banks to help them benefit from the profitability analysis capability built in to the Market Wiz system.

I would appreciate your informing your readers of the availability of the profitability features in Market Wiz and the expertise available from PCi Corp. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
