Letter to the Editor: X.com's Card Customers Are Protected

To the Editor:

Your article about X.com and our PayPal service ["X.com Moving into B-to-B Online Payments," Aug. 9, page 14] only partially described our new buyer protection policy, which protects our users if they send payments to fraudulent merchants.

When X.com users send payments to other, verified X.com users - including merchants - our guarantee is good regardless of whether the money is initially transferred from a bank into an X.com account or the payment is charged on a credit card.

In addition, Visa and MasterCard users retain all their traditional rights and protections, including the right to contest payments.

X.com's internal anti-fraud guarantee is supplemental to this.
