Majors chosen by American National Bank.

Charles H. Majors, who has been principal attorney for the Danville, Va.-based American National Bank and Trust Co. since 1977, will become its president in January.

Mr. Majors, currently a partner in the Danville law firm of Clement & Wheatley, will succeed James A. Motley as president of the bank and its parent company, American National Bankshares Inc. Mr. Motley will become chairman of the board and remain as chief executive officer until he retires in 1994.

Mr. Major has been a director of the $240 million-asset bank since 1981. Clement & Wheatley is general counsel to the bank.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for me," said Mr. Majors, adding that "this is probably the only job offering which would entice me away from my law practice."

Before moving to Danville in 1972, he was assistant dean of admissions at the University of Virginia Law School and a lawyer for the university.
