Massachusetts' Athol assumes deposits.

BOSTON - The two offices of Winchendon Savings Bank, which was seized Friday by the Massachusetts state bank regulator, reopened Monday as branches of Athol Savings Bank.

Deposits above the $100,000 insurance ceiling were insured by the private Mutual Savings Central Fund. The fund made a $309,000 payment to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to facilitate Athol's assumption of 74 such accounts totaling $3.6 million, said fund president Leonard Lapidus.
