Michael Hegarty To Be CEO of N.Y.'s Flushing Financial Corp.

Flushing Financial Corp. in New York said Michael J. Hegarty, executive vice president and chief operating officer, will be named president and chief executive officer.

He would succeed James F. McConnell, who is retiring from those posts Oct. 1.

Like Mr. McConnell, Mr. Hegarty would also become president and CEO of the company's Flushing Savings Bank.

Mr. Hegarty, 58, joined the bank with his current titles in 1995. He had been an outside director since 1987.

Mr. McConnell, 64, will remain a director. He joined Flushing Savings in 1974, became its president in 1981, and was promoted to CEO in 1990. In 1994, when Flushing Financial was established, he was elected its president and CEO.

Gerald P. Tully remains chairman of the parent company.
