Midwest BankCentre in Mo. Suffers Security Breach

Midwest BankCentre in Lemay, Mo., has warned its customers of a security breach, possibly involving its third-party vendors.

The $1.1 billion-asset bank learned Monday afternoon that a breach may have compromised some customers' personal information, it said in an alert posted on its website. The bank has notified the Secret Service and has hired a forensics firm to find the source of the breach, it said in the alert.

The bank "has no evidence" that its own security system was compromised, and the forensics firm is investigating some of its third-party vendors, it said. It plans to provide free identity theft protection for any customer affected by the breach.

Midwest BankCentre has six branches in the St. Louis area, according to data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The company could not immediately be reached for comment.

The news was first reported in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
