The Bend, Ore., mobile advertising provider RocketBux Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding to deliver digital coupons to the mobile phones of people who use nFinanSe Inc.'s prepaid cards.

Once cardholders sign up for RocketBux's system, merchants can send those consumers coupons after a transaction. The coupons include a link to a bar code that can be scanned from the phone's screen at checkout.

"This is the first application of RocketBux technology in the red-hot prepaid card space," Fred Boos, RocketBux's president, said in a press release Tuesday.

Jerry R. Welch, nFinanSe's chief executive, said his Tampa company is responding to growing consumer interest in electronic coupons tied to payment cards.

"We believe this exciting new concept can make our cards more 'sticky' with our cardholders and increase the useful life of our cards," Welch said.
