Moneris Solutions Inc. has announced the closing of its deal for the Eureka, Calif., merchant acquirer, Humboldt Merchant Services LP, as part of an effort to expand its presence in the Northwest.
Moneris, a Schaumburg, Ill., unit of Moneris Solutions Corp. of Toronto, announced the deal in September and the purchase's closing on Tuesday. Its merchant clients are mostly in the Midwest.
Humboldt was previously a unit of First National Holding Bank Co., which failed in July and was taken over by regulators.
Moneris said it plans to combine its payment offerings with those of Humboldt and that it would market them under both brands.
Humboldt has about 18,000 merchant clients and handles nearly $2.5 billion of card transactions per year.
