Money market assets edged up last week.

Money market mutual fund assets edged up during the week that ended Sept. 8, the Investment Company Institute reported.

Total assets stood at $580.76 billion, up from $571.16 billion a week earlier, according to the Washington-based trade group. The total includes $389.25 billion in funds for retail investors, and $191.51 billion in funds for institutional investors.

On the retail side, taxable fund assets grew to $305.45 billion, a $2.63 billion increase. Tax-exempt funds for retail investors finished the week with $83.8 billion, up $1.42 billion.

On the institutional side, taxable fund assets climbed to $169.5 billion, an increase of $4.68 billion. Tax-exempt funds for institutional investors had assets of $22.01 billion, a rise of $876.8 million.
